SEEDS is a privately-owned childcare centre that provides care and learning for young children from 0 to 5 years of age. It is a service that focuses on supporting the Samoan language within a caring Christian environment. SEEDS has three centres, all of which are located in the city of Porirua, Wellington, New Zealand. The first centre in Ranui was opened in February 2003, the second in Waitangirua in August 2009 and most recently, Elsdon in February 2011.
SEEDS is committed to developing bilingual (Samoan and English) educational resources to support children’s learning. SEEDS' first three books, written by Tolo Pereira and illustrated by Dwain Aiolupotea, were launched together with two posters on 1 June 2010.
These resources are available for purchase on-line. It is part of SEEDS strategic plan to continue producing a wide variety of bilingual educational resources so the Samoan language can be promoted and used, not only in the Samoan early childhood setting, but also in the mainstream education sector.
